Dr. Gene R. H. Fry: Climate Change Researcher and Educator

Dr. Gene R. H. Fry created this website as a library for presentations, articles, graphs, and maps about global warming and climate change.

Dr. Gene R. H. Fry created this website as a resource library containing presentations, articles, graphs, and maps on global warming and climate change. Earlier versions of this material were distributed through CDs to thousands of people.

Born in Fayetteville, Arkansas, Dr. Fry earned his PhD in Resource Economics from Cornell University in 1989. His research focused on solar water heating and the economics of aging nuclear power plants, with findings published in several academic journals. At Cornell, he met his wife Jane, an environmental educator, and they have lived in central Massachusetts for over four decades.

Throughout his career, Dr. Fry has worked in energy policy, economics, and environmental research. He served as Policy Director at the Maine Energy Office and later spent 13 years as an economist at the Massachusetts utility commission, where he helped evaluate and improve energy-efficiency programs. He also contributed to studies on air pollution, greenhouse gases, and global warming.

Inspiring creative work

Since 2004, Dr. Fry has worked as a consultant, writer, and lecturer, reviewing thousands of climate studies and writing hundreds of articles on climate change. His current research examines the effects of albedo changes, non-human greenhouse gas emissions, and long-term temperature trends.
He has presented climate-related information to around 70 audiences and delivered keynote speeches at international conferences in Spain, Switzerland, and Canada, as well as events at MIT, Japan, and India. Through his website and earlier CD editions, he has shared climate information with approximately 25,000 people.
A strong advocate for sustainable living, Dr. Fry has owned electric vehicles since 2017, first a Chevrolet Bolt and later a Tesla Model 3. He powers his home with renewable electricity, uses a heat pump instead of fossil-fuel heating, participates in community solar projects, and purchases carbon-removal services to reduce his environmental footprint.
His family also shares his environmental interests. His daughter is a geologist, his wife has organized and taught climate-change courses, and his brother teaches graduate-level climate science. Outside of his professional work, Dr. Fry enjoys cycling, hiking, traveling, bridge, and contra dancing with friends and family.
